This paper examines the characteristics of binary systems with immiscible components and approaches to studying them. It demonstrates the existence of traditional and new methods for producing alloys based on these components. A brief historical overview of the stages of studying these systems is provided. The potential and relevance of studying and applying alloys obtained from components partially miscible in the liquid and solid states is revealed. Using a thermodynamic criterion and based on an assessment of the behavior of two arbitrarily selected components, a classification of phase equilibrium diagrams for stratified systems is proposed for the first time. These data allowed us to divide the systems into limiting (with monotectic interaction, a closed decomposition dome, and virtually no interaction between the components) and intermediate (with monotectic interaction types and open decomposition domes).
