Annotation:

The paper investigates the influence of temperature on the stage-by-stage extraction of Fe(III) and Zn(II) from chloride solutions using tributyl phosphate. It was established that changes in temperature significantly affect the distribution coefficients of metals, extraction efficiency, and separation selectivity. Experiments were carried out using model chloride solutions containing Fe(III) and Zn(II) at temperatures ranging from 20 to 65°C. Tributyl phosphate with a concentration of 50 vol.% diluted in kerosene was used as the extractant. It was shown that increasing the temperature to 45–55°C promotes an increase in Fe(III) extraction up to 96–98% after three extraction stages while maintaining relatively low Zn(II) co-extraction. The maximum Fe/Zn separation coefficient reached 28–31. It was established that further temperature increase leads to higher Zn(II) extraction, deterioration of phase separation, and reduction of process selectivity. The distribution of components over the extraction stages was investigated, showing that the main part of Fe(III) is extracted already at the first stage of the process. The obtained results can be used in the development of technologies for purification of multicomponent hydrometallurgical solutions and nickel electrolytes from iron compounds without additional precipitation operations.
